The Art of Ad Campaign Reporting
Clients don't care about vanity metrics like impressions and reach if they don't translate into sales or leads. As a freelance media buyer, your job is to analyze the data, determine the actual performance, and explain it in simple business terms.
Metrics That Actually Matter
Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) and CPA
These are the ultimate profitability metrics. Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) shows how much revenue was generated for every dollar spent on ads. Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) shows how much it cost to acquire a single customer or lead. These tell the client if their campaign was profitable.
Structuring the Client Report
- Start with the Executive Summary: Put the key results (spend, revenue, leads, ROAS) at the very top. Most clients only look at these first few numbers.
- Use Simple, Jargon-Free Language: Avoid overly technical terms. Instead of saying CPC, explain it as the average cost to get one person to click to the site.
- Provide Actionable Next Steps: End the report with clear recommendations based on the findings, such as pausing underperforming ads or scaling the winners.
